John began recording music on a 4 track casette machine in NYC’s East Village in 2014. In 2019 he started producing his own records as “Jacksonport,” and in 2023 joined forces with GRAMMY nominated engineer Adrian Olsen to co-produce “Dusted Beauty” and it’s 2025 follow up, “Ting Ting.”
At the center of Fatum’s philosophies are facilitating and capturing the connection of live performance, and creating a comfortable environment for musicians to be themselves. Instead of trying to create magic, we are trying to capture the magic that already exists in both songs and people. As a drummer and multi-instrumentalist John is drawn to the alchemy of groove, swing, and all its human nuance. As a songwriter, building a conduit for feeling is always the aim. John’s recordings have included artists such as Joshua Crumbly (Terence Blanchard, Kamasi Washington, Big Thief, Leon Bridges), Rachael Price and Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive), GRAMMY winner Sarah Jarosz, Jeff Picker (Nickel Creek, Ricky Skaggs), Julian Pollack (J3P0, Terence Blanchard, Marcus Miller, Chris Botti), Buck Meek (Big Thief), Dan Croll, BAILEN, Hannah Read, Adam Brisbin, Steven van Betten, and many more.
In 2025 John and Adrian Olsen started a co-production project called “Hotel Avoca,” where they invite in an artist friend to record a cover song in one day, and release soon after.
