Dusted Beauty

There's a feeling I find difficult to describe, when the dust of life settles for a moment and I realize I'm surrounded by people I love. I felt it on the porch with Ken and Abigail in Aldie, Virginia. I felt it with Adrian and Alex in the studio Adrian built with his father in Richmond. I felt it by the espresso machine with Garret and Sean in Echo Park. With Jeff, Robin, Ben, Michael and Julian in-between takes, the dim studio light and years of stories and shared experience fragmenting through half-full bottles of mezcal and scotch. With Eliza at the dining room table, sharing these songs I brought back from the park. I don't get to choose when I have the feeling, just sometimes I'm open enough to realize that it's happening. I know I felt it every step of the way while making this record, and I hope some of that passes on to you.

To make “Dusted Beauty,”  I invited my oldest musical friends and peer mentors to record in my new home of Los Angeles. Jeff Picker (bass), Julian Pollack (aka J3PO , keyboards), Ben Flocks (saxophones), Robin MacMillan (drums, percussion),  Michael Fatum (trumpet), and Adrian Olsen (co-producer/engineer/mixer) arrived and an experiment began, exploring the positive role models that I call the sequoia trees of my life's grove.
